Still Waiting
Charcoal drawings of flying ships are transposed onto blue and white Max bus signs in and around Birmingham, Alabama. Birmingham’s outdated bus system is held back by a piece of 1950’s legislation that limits the tax money that can be spent on public transportation. The flying ship (most famously depicted in the Russian fairy tale “The Fool and the Flying ship” and “Peter Pan”) represents the triumph of the voice of the marginalized. The charcoal ships shimmering on the metal signs beckon bus riders to dream of a better system.
